Essential travel information for UK travellers

We want every trip to be as safe and stress-free as possible. Below are the essentials on passports, visas, health, insurance and the latest official travel advice — handy to share with your clients.

Passports & visas

Passport and visa requirements vary by destination and by nationality. Check them as soon as a booking is made, not at ticketing.

  • Many countries require at least six months' validity remaining on the passport beyond the return date.
  • Some destinations require blank pages, onward tickets or pre-approved electronic travel authorisations.
  • Names on tickets must match the passport exactly — corrections after ticketing can carry airline charges.

Health requirements

Some destinations have compulsory health requirements such as vaccinations. We recommend checking at least eight weeks before travel.

  • Speak to a GP, practice nurse, pharmacist or a specialist travel health clinic.
  • Certain countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination on arrival.
  • Clients carrying prescription medication should travel with a doctor's letter.

Travel insurance

Adequate travel insurance should be in place from the day of booking. Make sure the policy covers the whole party for the whole trip.

  • Cancellation and curtailment costs
  • Medical expenses abroad, including any pre-existing conditions
  • Repatriation in the event of illness or accident
  • Adventure activities, winter sports, cruise cover and high-value baggage where relevant

Official travel advice

For the latest official guidance on security, local laws, natural events and entry requirements, always check the UK Government's advice for the destination.

  • Advice is updated frequently — recheck close to departure.
  • Insurance can be invalidated if clients travel against official advice.
  • Clients can subscribe to email alerts for each country they are visiting.
