Founded in 1974 by the Widdowson family, Major Travel was created to serve the needs of travel agents. Whilst the company has grown to become a significant wholesaler in the travel industry the core family values upon which the business was established upon still remain at the heart of the company's culture and ethos. I have used Major on several occasions. I always find the staff to be very friendly and knowledgeable, especially when you have a very vague enquiry they can generally put it all together. We have had a complaint in Swindon branch about a holiday booked through Major, partly against us and partly against them. Major (and in particular Mary Arpino the Sales & Marketing Director) have been absolutely fantastic, making the customer a very fair offer but more importantly keeping our branch in the loop, liaising with the branch manager about their findings before drafting anything up to the customer and checking that their response looks ok with us first – very unusual but great stuff. The customer is looking for any excuse to take their complaint further and I am absolutely certain that Major’s professionalism has prevented the customer having ammunition to redirect the complaint against us (unlike the usual tour operator response: blame your travel agent!)
